ELDORA The Pine Lake Country Club hosts a ladies invitational golf tournament beginning Wednesday with 18 hole and 9 hole sections. 18 hole players tee at 8 a.m. while nine hole plays start later. Morning coffee luncheon bridge and golf are listed as events. About 100 ladies have entered in past years.
County extension director Dick Pulse of Eldora reports TGE or transmissible gastroenteritis, a deadly disease for pigs under ten days, spreading through Iowa herds with more outbreaks than in prior years. Dr. Maynard Spear cautions differential diagnosis and strict isolation to prevent sow transmission and herd losses.
The Providence community school district plans a budget hearing on July 22 at 8 p.m. at the school house. Estimated taxes per $1,000 of assessed valuation are $29.44, up $1,042 from 1956, with taxable values of Hardin County 2,726,245 and Marshall County 25,322, and 308 school age residents in the district.
Funeral services were held for Harm C. Harms 69 at Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church. Born April 22, 1888 in Germany, he died Thursday. Interment followed at Steamboat Rock cemetery with Rev. Dick Harberts officiating and vocalists Gordon Daleske and Dennis Holmes. Surviving are four sons, four daughters, two brothers, and four sisters. eight children were born to his marriage to Gertrude Aikes.
Roger Caine of Eldora departs Thursday for San Francisco to attend the national Elks convention as Exalted Ruler of the Iowa Falls lodge. He will represent the local lodge at the event guiding Elks activities and ceremonies.

Dick Pulse, extension director, reports a trial plot with over 15 sorghum varieties planted on Don Polley’s farm in Jackson township. The field sits north of Berlin cemetery on the west side of the road and will be marked later for observation by interested groups and individuals.
Visitors and workers at the Eldora Municipal Airfield dedication include Ronnie Bingaman and his grandfather John Bingaman of Pine Lake in a car scene. Eldora residents Richard Koch Jr Martha Ose Marsha Ose Lester Ose Jr Dianne Koch stand nearby with plane crew members and officials. The four passenger Beechcraft was flown in by Leslie Emmert of Tulsa Oklahoma who arrived Saturday, marking a community aviation event captured in a H I photo.
The 1957 Hardin County Fair at Eldora runs August 12–16 with daily attractions including a prep day horse show, Aut Swenson Thrillcade Ford acts, United Speedways car races, Killinger’s Showarama, and a live stock auction. Exhibits from 4-H and FFA, midway amusements, and new Ford giveaways are planned amid space reservations and traffic improvements under the grandstand.
Judge Harvey Uhrenhopp heard arguments in the judgment debtor examination of the defendant and witnesses in the Wellman Reisinger accident case and continued the matter until a future date. A petition had been filed to examine Eldora trucker Dale Reisinger and other witnesses by plaintiff Robert Wellman, a Marshalltown shoe clerk.
Harold Steinfeldt of Eldora is held in Hardin County Jail on lewdness charges with a $500 bond set after a Saturday hearing before Justice of Peace E. E. McFarland. He was arrested by Sheriff Paul Hodgson and Robert Barr following neighbor information.
The Hardin County Farm Bureau Young People will hold a hayride on Wednesday July 10 per county FBYP president Jerk Juchems. All FBYP members are urged to attend and bring a guest. Meet at the Ben Juchems home at 8 p.m. A steak fry will follow at Lepley Wayside Park near Union.
Services were held Friday at Town Falls for Frank Bessman aged 67 of Alden who died from injuries after a two car crash near Alden on June 23. He left five sons and six daughters.
Stag results show tied first on July 2 at Pine Lake Country Club with Boyd Reece Sam Brinkmeyer Dale Miller Don Marks and Tom Monteith. Tied second include Vic Reid Glenn Kurtz Jack Leonard Dick Koch Lew Throssel William Megan and Virgil Schmidt. Earlier on June 25 ties list Dr Norman Kunath D Grinnell Norman Malend in first place with Boyd Reece Kay Wickman and Emil Brinkmeyer tied for second.
Eldora merchants plan a Krazy Daze display contest next week with a three foot high gold loving cup trophy for the best street display. The city’s business section is split into half blocks for competing displays. The event runs Wednesday July 17 with costumes parades and numerous bargains for shoppers.
Albert Ross of Eldora chose 15 days in jail over a $50 fine in Marshalltown municipal court on a charge of uttering a false check. The false $10 check was written May 22 and drawn on Hardin County Savings Bank in Eldora, according to a Montgomery Ward & Co. store official.
Eldora prepares for Krazy Daze on Wednesday July 17 with a parade of children, pets, bikes and a Krazy band. Prizes for two judging categories plus free ice cream for entrants. Registration at 8 am, parade at 8:30 am, court house square opening. A three foot trophy for top merchant street display and a special Eldora Herald Ledger Krazy Daze issue to publish July 16.
Eldora patrons in town for Krazy Daze can park for free next Wednesday July 17. Mayor George Janssen says no money is needed in meters all day, and merchants and employees are asked to refrain from using metered spaces.
The Rev and Mrs John Zimmermann Pam Bruce Tim and Freddie will take a Wednesday trip to Estes Park and Colorado. During the Rev Mr Zimmermanns absence July 14 services will be led by candidate Marvin Barr a Concordia Seminary graduate at Springfield Il. His first call will be in Canada. The Rev G Meseke of Buckeye will lead July 21 services.
Eldora marked the new municipal airfield with 130 planes and more than 300 passengers. About 500 breakfasts were served at a drive in fly in breakfast. The first landing occurred at 1 15 a m by Herbert Fink of Nevada.
Mr and Mrs George Martin and their sons Paul and David of Eldora attended the funeral of Mr Martinsons brother in Decorah Saturday. Martinson is the local manager of the Central Iowa Telephone Co.

Cedar Rapids driver Hoyle sets a new track mark at the Hardin county fairgrounds Eldora during a United Speedways program. He wins the first heat and feature. his 28.60 second lap is the half mile record.
Bertha Williams 87 of Eldora died Sunday night in a local nursing home. Services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Longenecker Funeral Home Eldora with interment in Berlin cemetery. Born January 17 1870 New Bedford NL married to A D Williams March 4 1897. Moved to Iowa 50 years ago, lived in Eldora 20 years. Survived by sons Leo and Neil of Qwasa daughter Mrs Glen C Baker Eldora, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren. husband preceded.
The Clay Township Farm Bureau will hold a meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Steamboat Rock high school. The 4-H club boys and girls of Clay township will present the program. Refreshments will follow.
