Free vaudeville acts, a big parade, baseball games, dancing and many attractions mark Hubbard Days in Hubbard on Friday and Saturday July 8 and 9. United Royal Shows bring rides and concessions. Mack's orchestra will play nightly. The event draws Hardin county residents and officials expect a big crowd. The program lists parades, baseball games, band concerts, free acts, a flower show, a horseshoe contest, and community horse and other features with dances both nights.

A Polk county grand jury in Des Moines last Thursday dismissed the murder charge against Frank Miller, 34, a farm man held since April 4 in connection with the shotgun deaths of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Miller. The victims were parents of Mrs. Glen Crippen, operators of a filling station near Elora. The Miller home near Camp Dodge was the scene of two shotgun blasts. Frank found the bodies when he returned from a tavern about 3:30 a.m. He denied knowledge of the deaths under questioning. Dismissal means the grand jury found insufficient evidence for an indictment.

Hardin County Reaches Savings Bond Quota Now 35th In Iowa
Hardin County joins 34 others in achieving quota in the savings bond opportunity drive. Bond chairman Keith Strother of Eldora reports county sales at 542,463 dollars, 103.01 percent of its target, as Iowa totals reach 47,098,762 dollars toward a 50 million goal. Grundy County residents have purchased 482,312 dollars or 127.33 percent of their quota.

Electric power outage freezes offices after wiring mishap
Office workers sweltered Thursday afternoon as lights and fans stopped for an hour in the business district. A broken electric light wire behind the county jail caused the outage when Johnson and Larson workers repairing the county heating plant spanned two 2400 volt lines with a guy rope, fusing and burning them out. The county board had ordered chimney work on the reinforced concrete county heating plant, requiring a new cap.

Three Accidents Reported in Hardin County This Holiday
Sheriff Hodgson reports three holiday automobile accidents in Hardin county through Monday noon with no hospitalizations. Affects occurred north of Iowa Falls north of Steamboat Rock and at Hubbard where injuries were treated at a Hubbard physician's office. Hodgson added town luck early press time.

Lake crowds set seasonal attendance at Pine Lake state park
Custodian D. W. Hicks reported 4156 visitors at Pine Lake state park on Sunday, the largest crowd of the year, with the beach likened to a small Coney Island amid a hot wave. Eldora city park also drew many picnic parties, estimated at 4000 by custodian Arlie Williams.

Dale North 28 of Eldora was critically injured June 22 when he crashed a crop spraying plane on a farm north of town. Dr D M Nyquist said North has a good chance to recover though brain surgery may still be needed. Des Moines nerve specialist Dr Frank Ely consulted and agreed his prognosis improved.
