A California congressman introduced a bill for a permanent public works division to supplant the PWA and WPA. A nonpartisan board of labor, industry, two engineers would study projects, assess need and value, and report to Congress. Funding would control implementation. merit and efficiency would guide decisions.
A bill to amend the Iowa primary law would place all state office nominees below governor and lieutenant governor in nominations at state conventions. Proponents argue this strengthens the primary by removing weak links, aligning endorsements with home groups, and reducing name familiarity as a factor. The Rough Woods Cemetery society and Ladies Aid will hold a joint meeting Thursday February 9 at the Mary Campbell residence. A potluck dinner will be served at noon. Local residents George Tordoff and others are noted visiting nearby homes and attending a basketball game in New Providence.

Plans to install electricity in Melroe No. 2 schoolhouse and drill a well with an electric pump are approved at a special patrons meeting. Families share meals and attend showers, trips to Washington and Florida discussed, and numerous social calls appear across this extended community note.
Mr. and Mrs. Ord Ridout and family held dinner in the Albert Ridout home near Cottage. Nora Pixler of Steamboat Rock visited her aunt Mrs. J. W. Perkins. Rainsbarger guests at Gifford home. Jay Rainsbarger ill. Annie Hoyt joined Ross Ellison party to Alexandria and the Les Ellison home. Ellison family then returned to Little Rock Arkansas. Other guests included Milo Butler Odebolt and Leslie Emmert with Norma Butler. Wm Kothenbeutal Grace and Darlene guests of Ackley and Willison Chaney. Lorree Tidout from Ackley weekend with Ord Tidout family. Harold Perkins and Cora June visiting J. R. Perkins.
A post nuptial miscellaneous shower was held at the R F Lee home for Mrs Truman Nelson. Guests spent the afternoon writing menus and letters for the bride and enjoyed a luncheon of sandwiches, pickles, cake, ice cream and coffee.
Miss Margarat Guf, a Palestine missionary, stays with her cousin Mrs. Emma Freeman and conducts services at the church. Cross underwent an appendicitis operation in Ellsworth hospital. Ed Greenbure of Zearing returned home after aiding Sherwin Kittleson treated for quinsy. Freshman home economic girls hosted a banquet for the school board and faculty.
