Air Site Obtained At Grundy Center
Grundy Center Development Corporation agreed last week to buy a 13 acre tract three miles west of Grundy for a city airport. The deal hinges on State Aeronautical Board approval, state aid financing, and local fundraising. Eldora switches to a new dial telephone system on Thursday afternoon February 4. Mayor George Janssen placed the first long distance call. Local calls use two digits and five total numbers, with an automatic six to eight minute time limit and a one minute warning tone before cut-off. Emergency and police numbers, operator procedures, and office hours are outlined for residents and businesses. Free service to Hubbard ends.

Oppold Ordained Into Priesthood
The Rev. Joseph C. Oppold of Ackley was among eight young men ordained into the Roman Catholic priesthood on Saturday January 30 in Saint Raphael's Cathedral Dubuque. His first Solemn High Mass was at Saint Mary's Church in Ackley on Sunday January 31. He is the son of Robert Oppold and the late Gertrude Lamm Oppold, who died in 1955. He is a brother of Melvin Oppold and Mrs Harry Lawless living northwest of Eldora.

Eldora led by Pat Halton and team records crushed LaPorte City 99 to 70 to stay atop the North Iowa Cedar League. Batten scored 45 points, 19 field goals, a Tiger mark. he hit 63 percent from the floor and 90 percent at the line. Batten's 45-point night, Beloved by locals, came despite limited action in the third period. La Porte shot 37 percent from the floor and 67 percent at the line.
