Holiday In Ice Opens December 5 at Des Moines
Des Moines hosts the 14th edition of Holiday On Ice at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium from December 26 to 34. The program features The Wizard of Oz Sweet Tulip Time Exotic Enchantment and other acts with Dorothy Toto and the Cowardly Lion. Cyelosonic sound is described as sound in the round, adding a new dimension to production. Eight performances are planned during the holiday season with adjusted showtimes and matinees on specific dates.

Don Fiscus and Mrs. Galloway presented Manners for today and Christmas decorations. Homemade Christmas cookies and candy were served from the tea table with green and gold decorations as Mrs. Cole poured. The next meeting is Jan. 16. The Bangor Friends Missionary Society held an all day meeting with a covered dish dinner at Mrs. Lea Mosteller’s home. An afternoon business meeting followed with a Christmas program. Mr. and Mrs. Dafe Martin visited her brother Arvin Haywood in Oakdale Thursday.

Union aids meet at Community Church in joint session
The Ladies Aid and Missionary Societies held a Wednesday afternoon meeting in the church social room. Carols were sung with Mrs. Brace at the piano, officers were re elected, and the November report added 30.80 to the treasury. Projects included a Christmas Day Memorial play and a $50 donation to Lawrence Jones of Piney Woods School. The Legion Auxiliary also met, reporting 1,478 Butternut strips sent for a sponsored child and gifts to the Veterans Hospital, with a $5 donation to the Retarded Children Fund.

Assistant Economist Dwight Gadsby of Iowa State College explains a quick method to estimate land value per acre. He suggests capitalizing the going mortgage rate on net per acre return, noting that at 5 percent interest and $20 net per acre, value would be $400. He also advises combining productivity with normal value concepts and current market value for greater accuracy.

Hamburger Up Prices Press Hamburger Demand
Iowa State College farm economist Francis Kutish says hamburger prices have risen faster than choice steaks in the Midwest. The cattle cycle shift from contraction to expansion has feeders withholding cows and calves, driving higher prices on canner and cutter cattle that enter hamburger production. Slaughter of fed cattle is down from last year.
