Ames Farmers Forecast Strong 1950 Despite Lower Incomes
Hardin county farmers can expect another good year in 1950 though net farm income likely to be about three fourths of 1949. ISU economists cite strong national output, steady consumer demand, and continued government spending as factors supporting farm earnings amid some last half-year softness and price uncertainty.

Highway Story: Ice Driving Tips From Iowa Safety Tests
Bob Mullihan notes the Great Ice Follies may draw over a million Iowa drivers as January February records show a 110 percent rise in fatal crashes. Experts urge five times longer stopping distance on ice, advise pumping brakes to avoid skids, maintain steady pressure on the accelerator, round icy curves with steady engine power, and steer into slides while allowing ample room to recover. Lowering tire pressure or adding rear weight worsens control and risks blowouts.
