Definite Step Toward Progress on Medical Licenses in Iowa
The Iowa state board of medical examiners ended a 20 year rule banning non citizens from practicing in the state. The board later resigned after an attorney general ruling that the abolished rule was illegal to begin with. Communities like New Providence face doctor shortages, with displaced qualified physicians willing to work if allowed to practice. The measure would require alien applicants to pass science tests meet credentials complete a year of supervised study and show English proficiency. Lowering barriers could improve care in small towns and increase health standards across Iowa.
