Robber killed by officers in Colville identified as Tom Downer. His wounded companion Harry Caffeen was captured. Both men from Spokane and had no prior known crimes before the train robbery in Idaho last week.

Governor says no interference in the planned hangings of Archie Kinsauls white and Chauncey Davis colored at Clinton and Tarboro respectively. Kinsauls, injured from a prior suicide attempt, vows to resist the hanging while under tight guard.
Lake Charles Sept 28 A deputy sheriff was shot and killed by a mob trying to storm the jail to lynch Horace Scott, accused of criminally assaulting Mrs. Joe Goodman. The mob’s action followed the alleged crime.
Edwina Conger wife of the US minister in Pekin writes to her sister about the siege of the British legation from June to August. She recalls bombardment starvation eating horse and mule meat and dogs for converts while troops arrived on the 14th and she credit the almighty hand of God with saving them.
The carnival executive committee organized with Dr. H. H. Stark as president and H. B. Layton as secretary. The group set a three day event January 17 to 19 with plans for illumination of Mount Franklin and a $500 cattle roping contest. Attendance hopes include railroad and press cooperation for publicity.
An enthusiastic meeting at the courthouse presided by A. G. Foster adopted a drafted constitution and bylaws reported by J. A. Smith. The arrangements and finance committees were formed. Vice presidents from several wards were elected and next week public attention shifts to US District Attorney Atwell who will speak in El Paso. Meetings are set for Tuesdays at Sheldon Hotel with the next on October 2 at 8 o'clock.

The Deep Creek Mining company formerly the Morse Gold Mining company of Colorado Springs filed incorporation papers in Santa Fe New Mexico. Authorized capital is 1 500 000 with the New Mexico office at Silver City. Incorporators are William P. Dorsey H F J and Cc H Morze.
Berlin report says the emperor has abandoned the brushed up mustache and will adopt a new fashion. The Daily Mail correspondent notes the shift in imperial grooming.

In a wreck on the Aston Pacific near Terrace Utah last evening Mrs Lovell of Trenton Missouri was killed and 15 others injured. The train carried an excursion party from the east en route home. All the sleepers including two Burlington tourist cars were wrecked.
