Mark Daly died in New York today ending the career of the Copper King. The business figure was noted for his mining ventures and public influence in the industry.
Marcus Daly, the Montana copper magnate known as the Copper King, died at 7 50 this morning at the Netherlands hotel in Brigan Ss Ss dis ort wESse ca 2se. He leaves a wife, son, and three daughters at his bedside. Daly built Anaconda copper interests into a fortune worth about 20 million in twenty years and was a vocal rival of Senator W A Clark. His death reshapes western mining fortunes and recalls the long feud between Daly and Clark in Montana politics.
Stephens travels to New Mexico to personally investigate conditions at the Agency and collect information to support expansion efforts on the Mescalero Reservation.
Congressman John H. Stephens arrived in El Paso to inspect Mescalero and other reservations for a bill to open western lands to settlement. Ignacio Bustillos, 26, killed himself at a Mexican baile on Fifth Street after seeing his sweetheart dance with another man. The shot, fired at the doorway, ended his life instantly. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as guests alerted police and undertakers.
