The Herad reports post telegraph bulletins will be shown by the election display system used in big cities replacing the old method. Bulletins appear twenty minutes earlier and remain readable. shown from the Sheldon hotel balcony in the lide plaza starting about seven and continuing until midnight.
The Sheldon hotel proprietor Fisher reserves the main parlor and adjoining corridor on the second floor for ladies this evening. The Herald will read returns in this room as they arrive before display elsewhere. The parlor is warm and inviting. ladies are urged to attend from about 8:30 p.m. onward.
The Herald will edit and collect fast bulletins into a full Election Extra to be issued at 10:30 on election night. Bulletin updates continue afterward as events unfold. Two new Linotype machines will operate 7:30 to 10, inviting readers to view the process and receive a souvenir.
Reports from states including Connecticut Iowa Michigan Missouri New York New Jersey Nevada Oregon Pennsylvania Texas Washington and West Virginia describe fair to clear conditions, heavy to very heavy voting, long lines at polls, and strong statewide campaigns with parties predicting gains.
In Phoenix Arizona Governor Murphy and Marcus A Smith race for congress delegates with early voting and forecasts of close results. Murphy claims a 300 vote edge while Smith campaigns in Cochise County to curb Republican momentum.
At a Denver voting site two men were killed and four wounded in a riot near Twentysecond and Lammert streets. A colored crowd clashed with officers after officers tried to push them back from the limit line. John Branford fired on Officer Carpenter. Branford was killed by Detective Carberry. The scene drew police to guard the area as the wounded, including deputies and a special policeman, were carried away.
Canton Ohio November 6 President McKinley voted at 9 20 oclock in the morning as the electorate began to cast ballots. The report notes his participation in the early voting activities.
Election day in El Paso and vicinity opened with pleasant weather and bright sunshine. Voters turned out early and polls indicated a heavy turnout expected in the morning hours.
