Birmingham reports a tornado tearing through the city with extensive damage. By noon nearly a thousand injured, several fatalities, and multiple deaths across nearby areas as the storm spreads. Reports include destroyed tracks, wrecked cabins, and widespread panic from Alabama to beyond.
Cholera sweeps hog pens in Ellis and nearby counties as hundreds die. Farmers who recently expanded the hog trade to boost income face heavy losses and possible abandonment of diversification efforts amid the outbreak.
Dispatch from Inspector Mobley states Dr. Blunt has not resigned and will not re sign his position. The doctor’s stance contradicts earlier reports and was received in this city this afternoon.

E T Thompson a Senatoria planter left for his Delta plantation with corn. He became lost in a bottom between Bridge and Walnut Lake, trapped seven days with rising water, no food or fire. Mrs Nation confronted a saloon keeper in St Louis after he used her name for his establish ment sign. She demanded the sign be changed, threatened bodily harm if it remained, then left without calling the police, saying the matter would be pursued.
A train loaded with oil entering Glengarden New Jersey caught fire as burning fluid escaped from tanks and flowed into the streets. In hours eleven residences and several stores burned to ashes with the town largely in flames. Loss estimated above one hundred thousand dollars.
C E Bailey of New York announces plans to build a three story hotel at Mesa avenue and Main street facing the main plaza with 100 rooms on the upper floors and six stores on the ground floor. He has sold the existing natatorium to Felix Martinez and will move the fixtures after the current lease ends.
VICKENBURG Arizona March 25 The greatest gold strike in the west has been made near here at the Oro Grande mine opened by Clinton Iowa interests. Early development shows a million and a half dollars in gold outlined with untold millions more promising. The three quarter mile long ledge measures from one to three hundred feet wide and surface croppings extend over much of it. Prospectors rush in from across Arizona as news spreads to Phoenix and the new camp grows on the railroad. The excitement is intense and a town may soon rise.
Pittsburg reports Patrick Dolan district manager for the miners said no strike this year after three weeks of negotiations. Operators agreed to grant every privilege and increase requested, ensuring continued work.
