A boiler explosion at the Doremus steam laundry on Madison Street wrecked the two story building. About 30 girls and 50 to 60 men were buried. 14 dead or injured by noon, with 20 hospitalized. By 3 PM casualties rose as more bodies were recovered and missing workers reduced.
Indianapolis March 11 Former President Harrison remains critically ill with pneumonia in both lungs and a 103 degree fever. A panel of physicians led by Drs Hadley Jameson and Dorsey says the crisis may come within thirty hours and death could follow if the infection worsens. The family is alarmed.
Pekin reports Minister Conger has started for the United States with his family after a farewell gathering. Foreign ministers and their wives bid him good bye while Chinese officials and soldiers observed the departure at the station.
From Pretoria March 11 General De Wet advances northward at about twenty five miles daily with plans to cross the railway near Kroonstadt. Reported discouraged as many followers desert him British influence spreads and Boers lose ground daily signaling the end may be near.
Hazelton March 11 President Mitchell of the United Mine Workers says he hopes to arrange a conference between coal operators and miners to settle differences outside of the ten per cent wage increase. He believes a settlement is possible without a strike.
The body of Mrs. Sarah Jane Hess, a well to do widow, was found near her Mt Vernon residence this morning. She had been stabbed and beaten in what police term a robbery murder with no clue to the killer.
President Hadley of Yale University warned at an address in Boston that unless public sentiment regulators trusts, an emperor in Washington could arise within 25 years. He called trusts the overwhelming danger to the country and urged action beyond legislation.
Cincinnati March 11 reports Frank Brown the defaulting cashier of the German National Bank of Newport Kentucky has been located in Honduras. He and S A Piper of Montana are said to be mining and repairing their fortunes.
The Texas House discussed a ten thousand dollar bill for Rusk as the Senate was not in session. With lawmakers earning two dollars daily, early adjournment is anticipated.
Sixteen car loads of fat Mexican cattle were sold today by the El Paso Live Stock Commission Company to W. J. Fewel of El Paso and Ben Earp of Kent. The cattle are for breeding, with Major Fewel shipping his share to his White Oaks ranch.

Promoters seek to open Oregon street to Juarez and install an electric street railway with a bridge across the Rio Grande. The plan boosts street values and prompts talks with International Light and Power about supplying the system, with a thirty day option observed by current operators.
Six men arrested in Clifton Arizona charged with links to a major counterfeit ing scheme. United States Secret Service agents had pursued the gang for months and say they have crippled one of the service's most extensive counterfeiting operations. The fakes circulated widely through a network of accomplices.

The winner receives a 3000 dollar bonus for most wins, with three grand fights at 5000 dollars per side. Salas Losoya leads Guanacevi with fourteen wins, Prieto of Chihuahua has ten. Chihuahua has won two of the three 5000 dollar fights, Guanacevi one, with seventeen fights remaining. On day one, 100000 dollars changed hands.

Manila March 11. Insurgents reportedly terrorized associates during the trial of natives charged with murdering Quizimberg, president of Calamba, for aiding the Americans. Evidence described a native secret society more powerful than the Italian mafia, which has killed over fifty Filipinos deemed friendly to Americans. Victims were buried alive in some cases.
In Jersey City March 11 the vice chancellor denied a permanent injunction against the proposed smelter trust. The Guggenheim deal proceeds as planned, enabling a union of U S and Mexican smelters under the arrangement.
Wichita March 11 Mrs Nation won another victory today as the jury failed to reach a verdict and was discharged. The panel stood seven for acquittal and five for conviction with no final ruling.
A cable from Victor New York reports an attempt to desecrate the Frogmore mausoleum where Queen Victoria is entombed. An additional guards of soldiers will be posted around the site.
Mar 11. Jesus Saltman, once with Banco Minero and later a government employee, shot himself in the head at the Alameda in Chihuahua. The well known Mexican leaves nine children. No motive is given for the act.
