The steamer St Paul blew a boiler near Alton Illinois, scalding five crew members—four black sailors and one white. The vessel landed safely and the injured were taken to St Louis aboard the Joseph Parker. Two men died in St Louis this morning, including Oliver C Thompson the white sailor. One of the remaining injured negroes cannot live and the other is severely scalded with one eye destroyed.
Newport June 28 Rear Admiral Sampson has received papers from Secretary Long granting a month's leave of absence. He will leave his fleet July 5 and command will devolve on Captain Taylor of the Indiana during his absence.
