Washington reports Wheaton and Oven shine’s forces occupy country south of Bacor in the Philippines. Severe fighting leaves ten Americans killed and forty wounded, with enemy losses stated in the hundreds. Uncertainty remains over holding captured territory at Bacor.
The New Richmond Wisconsin cyclone rescue effort resumes with militia arrival to curb sightseers. Officials estimate at least 126 dead, possibly up to 290, as crews search ruined areas and distribute aid to the injured and hungry.

J. M. Neeland and H. R. Yerxa secure a Mexican government concession to build a 160 mile railway from Cordova to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. New York capital backs the project with Mexico providing a substantial portion of funding. Construction expected within two years with duty free entry for supplies.
In district court the jury awarded Juan Cano 2500 dollars after he sued G H railway for 10000 in damages for personal injuries from a rail straightening machine accident in which he lost several fingers. The trial also noted W E Barrie, a volunteer soldier, on trial for alleged room invasion and theft.
Jefferson D Goddard was found guilty of murdering Fred Jackson in Kansas City in 1897. The jury set the penalty at twenty years in the penitentiary.
Washington reports the naval participation yesterday south of Manila as highly effective. Cablegrams from Captain Barker, the senior officer present, are cited in today’s dispatches.
Earl Hanchette shot and killed his young wife this morning and fatally wounded himself. The crime was contemplated and authorities withhold a public statement.

Leadville and Cripple Creek report mixed conditions though most reports indicate no violence. The Guggenheim smelter plans to handle most Cripple Creek production as Aspen and Durango face unsatisfactory conditions.
Dispatch from Chihuahua reports general sentiment favors Gen Juan Hernandez to become Chihuahua’s next governor in 1900 as the current governor will not seek re election. Hernandez, rising from the ranks to command the northern military zone, is popular and well positioned for the post.
The Old Dominion steamer bound for New York grounded near Richmond Virginia. Passengers are being removed by tugboats as salvage efforts begin.

On June 8, ministers and deacons from the two colored churches met at the call of Rev. Wm. L. Craft. The meeting elected Rev. T. J. B. Barclay as president, L. D. Thomas as vice president, Wm. Craft as secretary, J. H. Brown as assistant, and Deacon J. H. Smith as treasurer. The officers were installed.
New York markets report copper at 18.25 cents a pound silver at 614 cents an ounce and lead at 4.25 cents per pound as of June 14.

The chief and the recorder were busy this morning on the monthly report. Many convicted on carrying pistols were fined 25 dollars each, swelling the totals. Only three docket cases were heard, decided by Recorder Patterson, and the report will be ready for council tomorrow night.
