Pedro Aguirre a middle aged Mexican was jailed by Ranger J A Rodgers after luring 11 year old Juana Hernandez from Juarez then crossing the river into New Mexico and holding her at house 54 on the smelter hill before returning her to Texas side. Hernandez and wife located them with aid of friends and Aguirre was placed in county jail awaiting further proceedings. The girl's recovery is uncertain.
A J De Russey, longtime Texas and Pacific road employee and former Denver general agent, died of consumption in Abilene on Sunday morning. He spent many winters in the city and his body was shipped to New Orleans for interment. His career included roles as Pacific coast general agent in San Francisco and division freight agent in New Orleans, later serving as traveling freight agent in El Paso due to ill health.

A Leavenworth dispatch reports that for the first time western coal from the Colorado Fuel and Iron company Los Cerrillos mines near Waldo New Mexico captured Fort Leavenworth business. Tests showed 1 657 pounds of Los Cerrillos coal equal a cord of hardwood versus 1 757 pounds for Pennsylvania anthracite in a 2 500 000 pound contract.
First Lieut. George D. Moore of the 23d Infantry is detailed as professor of military science and tactics at Kemper School in Boonville Missouri. Moore previously served as second lieutenant in the 18th Infantry at Fort Bliss.
