Trial opens in Goebel murder case in Georgetown

A special term of Scott county circuit court convened in Georgetown for the murder trial of Youtsey Combs Whittaker Powers and Davis. W H Culton testified that Youtsey said Governor Taylor offered money to leave the state, while Youtsey denied the offer but said someone would fund his departure. Culton to be star Commonwealth witness.

Gold Brick Loan and Re demption Near Fraud Claim

A Mexican deposited a large Babbitt metal brick with E Sambrano and was loaned 650. The mass was claimed to be silver. two locals then offered to redeem it for its owner and pay $10 in advance. They ended up paying $16.50 for a brick likely worth 65 cents.

Three Shots In Bank Saloon Sparks Downtown Alarm

Sunday evening at 7 30 three shots rang out in the Bank saloon behind Albers drug store. Bartender Edward Walmsley, recently dismissed, fired at proprietor Chas Bergsland and at Dave Andrews and Murphy. Walmsley was arrested by Officers Dwyer and Cristley after the incident. no clear motive was given.

Two Chinese Deported After Arrest In Strauss New Mexico

Inspector of Customs Logan and Chinese Inspector Mehan arrested two Chinese men in Strauss New Mexico found in the United States without credentials. They had traveled from Juarez and were attempting to enter the interior. A hearing before United States Commissioner Howe resulted in deportation orders. A third Chinese man was arrested later today for unlawful presence and jailed awaiting hearing.

Four Handed Fight Leads to Lockup for Two

J Portillo and Manuel Barela were arrested by Officers Scott and Mitchell on charges of assault to kill after a four handed fight near Siath and Stanton. Manuel Morales suffered serious neck and facial injuries and was semi conscious from blood loss. Other assailants fled. Portillo and Barela were moved to Sheriff Boone’s custody.

Daring burglary attempt ends with gunfire and escape

A thief tried to force entry into Mrs. Pauls residence at Campbell and Wyoming. He was shot at by Sir Paul and by Officer Billy Saith. none hit. The robber fled but is described by police and likely to be caught.

Sheriffs Convention Entertainment Plans Highlight Park Events

The committee for the sheriffs convention reports strong support with nearly a thousand dollars pledged to light the park for three nights of festivities.
