In St John’s Newfoundland on Jan 17, authorities confirm the wrecked ship off St Mary’s Bay is the German oil tank steamer Heligoland. Captain Van Rittera, sailing from Philadelphia Jan 5 bound for Bergen, Norway, had a crew of 38, all Germans. No more bodies were recovered and all are presumed lost.
