Officials fret over Manila rebellion as Aguinaldo forces press attacks daily. General Otis notes growing killed and wounded, while officers warn constant sharpshooter assaults could force reckless actions and risk a massacre of isolated units.

The Commercial club of Alamogordo hosted a grand banquet and reception for C B Eddy and friends Howard Ford and John Vandyke of New York City. Fifty plates were served with a Delmonico worthy menu as Col. J F Harvey presided and praised Eddy Bros. in an enthusiastic closing address.
Washington February 27 outward signs indicate the two branches of the Presbyterian church split since the Civil War are pursuing reunion seriously. A conference between representatives may yield decisive steps at May general assemblies. The joint plan aims to restore a unified church with about 1,088,214 communicants and property valued at 95,575,200, excluding related wings.
The Charles McDonald murder case entered trial in Chicago with Baron Curt von Biedenfeld charged in December. Judge Gary presides as eminent counsel for both sides are engaged. The baron is defended by his father in law’s family, while the State’s attorney is aided by local Irish societies linked to McDonald.
The second trial of Fayne Moore for badgering Martin Mahon, a New Amsterdam House proprietor, was indefinitely postponed as Mahon remains missing presumed to have fled to avoid testifying. Moore reportedly winked when informed of Mahon’s disappearance.
Washington February 27 Gen Otis weekly report lists February casualties. Arthur Ramsey of Company E First Colorado died from spinal meningitis on February 20. Albert the line breaks.
The court will stay in Washington at least a week to gather beef packing testimony before a Western trip. Dr Daly testimony on the Panama transport is postponed until beef representatives attend. A letter was sent to Governor Roosevelt of New York requesting a testifying day. no reply yet.
London reports Kipling's serious pneumonia developments causing national distress as media warn a death would be a calamity. In New York Kipling remains unconscious at ten this morning as his condition worsens.
Reports from Washington say Aguinaldo sent a commission to General Otis proposing to end fighting. Secretary Alger and Secretary Corbin are at the White House in conference with the president.
Brigadier General King is ill with gastritis and has been relieved by Brigadier General Lloyd Wheaton, formerly colonel of the 20th Infantry, in Manila.
In Philadelphia on February 27 the trial of M. S. Quay was postponed and rescheduled for April 10.
This morning a permit was issued to Mrs Annie Wood for the construction of a $200 residence on Main Street. She plans a single family dwelling and the project will be subject to local building regulations.
In the Washington House reading of the military appropriation bill on Feb 27 Sulzer Democrat New York proposed adding a fourth major general to the three authorized. He specified the title referenced General Wheeler, linking the change to the wartime demand for higher command.
Judge Chambers, formerly of Montgomery Alabama and partner in Clapton Herbert Chambers, became chief justice of the Samoan Islands supreme court. He served on commissions to settle land grants, later practiced in Washington for the Cramps shipbuilders, and was confirmed by the Senate after Cleveland appointed him just before leaving office. About 25 000 Yaquis live in the area with an independent government after pacification two years ago following long conflict.
