A delayed February dispatch from RELIEF COLUM PAARDEBURG describes Cronje’s unchanged position near Colenso and Boer earthwork k集opes. British balloon reconnaissance spotted burrowed riverbank positions and four ammo wagons. De Wet’s 1000 strong column tried thrice to break British lines and withdrew in apparent panic.
The city greeted Mardi Gras with decorations and revelry as royal yacht Rex arrived escorted by a flotilla. The National Editor association delegates, their families, and local committees joined opening ceremonies at City Hall with keys of the city presented to the carnival king.
