The Chicago Chronicle notes that in England a death sentence leads the judge to mark the name as Left for execution in the calendar. After fourteen days the sheriff sets the execution date. No death warrant is issued by the home office except for respite or reprieve. The queen does not sign a death warrant.
Congress moves to final votes with the fortifications appropriation at 9.178 million, 9 million below estimates. The Nicaragua canal bill is withdrawn by Senator Morgan and will be pressed in the extra session. Chandler to address the Senate on bimetallism next Monday as electoral votes are counted.
Early 2 15 AM blaze razed the Lockhart and Armijo hotels in Albuquerque. Guests escaped with no casualties. Firefighters saved surrounding structures but adobe walls collapsed after water damage. Louis Papin longtime resident died at 6 30 this morning from pneumonia after a brief illness He was 41 and leaves a wife and two sons Roland 9 Henry 10 The family resides at 601 Magoffin avenue Papin had connections with Hillsboro New Mexico and Chihuahua Mexico The funeral details include embalming in El Paso and shipment to Somerset Ohio for interment The obituary notes Papin born in St Louis attended St Xavier college and the college of the Christian brothers.

Rufus Sharp of St. Louis and Charles Turner of California met in a finish fight at the Visitors club in Hot Springs Arkansas last night. Sharp was knocked out in the 25th round.
