Woman fires three times at burglar in San Antonio street home

Mrs. John L. Klink shot at an intruder thrice in her 1110 San Antonio Street residence after a head appeared at the door. The thief fled. a green cash box containing $35 was later found in the doorway. No suspect identified and no other valuables taken.

El Paso Fire Dept Holds Annual Meeting and Elects Connors Chief

The city hall gathering heard Chief Powers report 42 alarms with losses and insurance totals and district breakdowns. Members applauded, officers were elected, and J. J. Connors won the chief’s chair over Tom Holland after a heated ballot.

Bridge Crew Pushes Overhead Trestle Toward Juarez

The Corralitos road bridge gang works on a nine mile trestle crossing the Mexican Central nine miles below Juarez with 200 feet of trestle and five and fifty thousand cubic yards of earth for approaches. Sixty dry arroyos require bridges before the line reaches the mesa. The chief engineer warns of cribbing at arroyos to speed progress if delays persist. Bridge workers strive to hasten completion despite the heavy workload.

Wreck of Southern Pacific Train Near Sandy Fork Claims Five

In a dense fog at Sandy Fork the P Wreck of the Southern Pacific wreck killed Brakeman Heard and Engineer Cody Brown. Conductor Gaffney disappeared after the crash and may be alive or missing. Officials blame Brown and Gaffney. Heard had recently moved to the line. The crash occurred at the foot of two grades with speed high as crews tried to reach the hills.

Rio Grande Dam Project Linked to Bradbury Contract

In an interview Denver Newsman Major Llewllyn reports a prominent English firm awarded a major contract to Mr Bradbury of the city to build dams reservoirs and canals in the Mesilla valley along the Rio Grande. The plan aims to supply irrigation for about 260000 acres. The Rio Grande valley from Espanola to the Texas line is noted for climate soil and potential to support a million people and substantial water resources.

Cattle Inspector Reports Large Numbers Through District

J. T. Towner of the Colorado sanitary board, stationed in northern New Mexico, says from March 15 to November 15 this year he inspected 224,106 cattle passing through for Colorado or eastern markets. He also inspected 60,000 sheep entering Colorado from New Mexico.
