In Indianapolis a Chicago express on the Pennsylvania line crashed head on into a Monson engine at Market Street crossing. The Monson engineer William Martin was crushed against the boiler and died soon after rescue. Firemen saved others with water, passengers unharmed.

In Corsicana Texas August 7 Senator Mills agrees with Texas Petroleum to sink a well on his land in the oil district. He now opts not to push heavy development citing fear of Standard Oil dominance. Wells yield about 1000 barrels daily used for fuel with demand exceeding supply.
An explosion at a cartridge depot in Rustchuk Bulgaria yesterday destroyed several buildings. Forty six people were killed and sixty wounded, with many in hopeless condition. Officials attribute the blast to worker carelessness in handling explosives and government aid was promised. the blast shattered windows across the river in Giurgevo.
A Chicago backed corporation with 100 million capital plans to develop interior Alaska. It will build and operate railroads steamship lines and trading posts while promoting extensive mining and prospecting operations across the continent.

Switchman Patrick Considine of the Santa Fe at Rineco drowned while swimming in the Rio Grande. The body was recovered. R. Witchens of the Texas Railway News and Indicator returned to Port Worth in the afternoon.
