Allied forces launch renewed assault across contested sector as units push toward key objectives. Reports cite coordinated infantry and armored actions with breakthroughs near strategic positions and ongoing heavy fighting.

Rev C C Waller reports rapid progress on the White Oaks site with 115 acre ground work and a 122000 feet building boom for Alamogordo including a public school cornerstone. An artesian water bore is poised to yield a strong stream while El Paso is expected to gain from the venture. A recent Alamogordo fire caused $6000 loss at Mecian Bros furniture store and $30 of college stakes were damaged.
Reports describe heavy fighting as Chinese forces claim 16,000 troops at Pekio and 8,000 at Tung Tsun. They assert control of streets within a mile of the legations and that Chenman gate was burned and abandoned as officers departed the capital.
Asheville report notes a roughly 30,000 Democratic majority in the August 2 election. The result largely disfranchises Black voters, with widespread abstention by the Negro population. Martha Bendix and Paul Warner, both 18, were drowned in the Current River at Poplar Bluff while fleeing a displeased father during an elopement attempt. Their boat overturned midway across the river as they tried to escape.
Grant Reid was hanged this morning for the murder of his wife and her father in Burfall Virginia. He killed his wife after she refused to return to him and then shot Peter Jackson, her father, who rushed to aid his daughter.
In New York on August 3 a 50 cent per ton drop in pig iron price brings the current price to 12 dollars.
Max Schutz, a street merchant, reported last weekend four shirt waists were stolen from his store in front of the open door. A later sighting by a porter tied the thieves to two Mexican men. a Wednesday visit by three Mexican women ended with one scarfing a waist and claiming it was given by Manuel Montez, who fled to Chihuahua, as Officer Scott took the woman to the station.
Rabbi H. Weld of New York will conduct services at Mt Sinai Temple tonight at o o clock. He is a candidate to fill the post recently held by Dr. Cohen. A Sunday evening service is planned at eight o'clock and all are invited.
