Reports from Wepener say the Boer assault on the British remains unresolved with weather hampering telegraphing. Paris dispatches note renewed Boer resolve despite earlier setbacks and stronger artillery. Elandslaagte report cites a two hour clash with Boer forces checked by a British line as big guns shell the position.
In San Antonio telegrams report the Sunset iron bridge over the Colorado at Columbus washed out by a midnight flood. Two of Frank Oliver’s sons drown at Victoria, widespread property and stock losses noted. Austin seeks food and clothing for flood victims. engines and boilers ordered from Indianapolis to power water and light plant, estimated at 11 000 dollars to operate. Boston bondholders wired for reconstruction cost and potential rebuild.
A morning fire at H. R. Kennedy’s residence in AusTin caused $15,000 in property damage due to lack of water nearby. No injuries reported. Fire crews responded quickly to contain the blaze.
In Brenham on April 12, editors gathered for the annul meeting of the Texas Press association. The event rose to a celebrated high point as the Texas newspaper man was honored, receiving recognition on a velvet cushion in a gesture of esteem.

Strong demand is tied to prosperity and retailers’ new lines, including the Philippine egg with printed head and limbs, animal shaped eggs, panoraus eggs with Niagara Falls and Pisa, plus rabbits and ducks.
In Joplin Missouri on April 12 the second largest zinc mining deal in U S history was completed. C C Moore of Geneva Kansas sold the South Side Milling and Mining company estate of 80 acres with ten mills and fifteen mines to Henry S Seelsy for a syndicate worth about half a million dollars.
The Unitarian First Parish church of Concord Massachusetts burned this morning from an unknown cause and was nearly destroyed. The 1794 building once hosted the provincial congress under John Adams and Emerson and Thoreau were linked to the church’s society.
Columbus delegates resolved to keep the planned June demonstration for Admiral Dewey, hailed as Manila Bay hero, despite talk of his presidential ambitions. The board of trade committee discussed the event at a last night meeting.

NAMED FOR PUERTO RICH WASHINGTON April 2 Charles H Allen of Massachusetts assistant secretary of the navy may become the first civil governor of Puerto Rico. The president has decided to appoint Allen and he is to accept. Allen is praised for executive ability and familiarity with Puerto Rico from his Cuba visit last year.
The New Mexico department G A R held elections on April 12 naming Commander John R. McFie Santa Fe formerly Las Cruces as head. Other officers include Senior Vice Commander Theodore W Heman White Oaks and Junior Vice Commander T W Collier Raton with a full slate of administrators and inspectors across Taos Santa Fe Las Vegas Albuquerque Socorro and Las Cruces.
A four story warehouse of Armstrong & McKelvy's white lead works collapsed at Second Avenue and Wood Street at 9 35 this morning. The disaster caused multiple deaths as roof walls fell inward. Heavy rain weakened foundations overnight leading to the structure sinking as if by an earthquake.
Sam Kibbler and Thos Mackey were buried for hours after a snow slide at Iowa Gulch Ready Cash mine. Mackey escaped, Kibbler freed after eleven hours, rescued early this morning and to be brought to town. Both in a bad way.
The dispatch reports General Blanco dead and notes he is the brother of Senor Jacobo Blanco of the city, a member for Mexico on the international boundary commission. No word reached Senor Blanco by 4 10 p m. and the report could not be verified before press time.

Reports from Luna New Mexico describe a mounted outlaw gang raiding border areas from Springerville Arizona to Frisco New Mexico. Posse pursuits, ambushes, and repeated gunfire leaving two local men dead and stole horses and gear as trackers press to halt the gang.
In Apache County near St Johns a violent massacre unfolds as Sheriff Heeler and posse chase seven desperadoes. Two young men named Bons and Neemore were not prepared to join the pursuit, leaving the rest to face the danger.
