A massive blaze in Green Point Brooklyn burned for hours destroying property across nearly half a square mile. Estimated damage reaches 2 million dollars. E K Smith box factory Post McCord steel and iron works George W Piper coal and lumber yards Church and Company soda factory and Brooklyn oil works were all incinerated. The fire began in Smiths box factory.
Jeffries started active training at his Allenhurst quarters on April 10 ahead of his bout with Corbett. He walked a brick route and said he would be in far better condition for the bout than in his previous meetings with Fitzsimmons or Sharkey.

Deputies join forces with Arizona and New Mexico authorities to sweep the Chiricabas Dragoon Whetstone and Harshaw mountains for two fugitive bands. Citizens demand capture of the outlaws.
Les Hughes was sworn in as sheriff of Dallas county to succeed Ben E Cabell who resigns to become mayor of Dallas. Baptiste Adou, son of J B Adov the Dallas banker, was bitten by a dog suspected of rabies last Friday. He left for New York for Pasteur treatment.
Lyie King, an El Paso engineer, is in Havana from South Africa to perform engineering work for the United States.
Col. Simpson relieves Major Thompson as chief quartermaster of the military department of Texas in San Antonio on April 10.
A London dispatch reports safety gossip that Miss Nanny Leiter may marry Major Colin Campbell, formerly viceroy on Lord Curzon's staff at Simla, now returning to England on leave. Earlier chatter tied Miss Daisy Leiter to Campbell, a denial was issued by the Leiter family in Washington.
