A pistol duel near Mexico City on Thursday involved two women from prominent families. One combatant was seriously wounded and the winner along with the two seconds were arrested, according to the Daily Herald.
London reports Lady Somerset leads preparations for the World W C T U biennial convention to be held in Edinburgh in June. The fifth meeting follows Boston 1891, with past venues Chicago London Toronto. Delegates are expected to receive a large, successful gathering after Miss Frances Willard's death.

In San Francisco on April 7 C P Huntington abandoned the plan of compulsory insurance for Southern Pacific employees after unanimous worker opposition. Huntington admitted for the first time in his career that labor pressure compelled him to surrender.
Special Dispatch reports from San Marcial New Mexico that April Green Robbins who runs a nation store here was assaulted and robbed last night at about eight o'clock by a man named Charles Beard. The dogro was captured.
A major fire in Proctorville Huntington West Virginia began at 9 this morning and has destroyed more than forty buildings. Fire engines arrived from nearby towns to combat the blaze.
