Bank Promotes Two Officers At National Bank of Commerce

The National Bank of Commerce held its annual stockholders meeting Tuesday afternoon where Sam E. Babb outlined gains in capital, profits and reserve funds, and announced promotions for James D. Lodge to secretary to the board and Marion R. Smith to vice president and assistant trust officer. The bank reported usual dividends paid and reelected the balance of officers and board of directors.

Monroe Civic Center project discussed by Lions Club audience

William B. Lillyman outlined the $5.5 million Monroe Civic Center on an 31 acre tract funded by an $11.5 million bond issue approved in 1962. The complex will include a theater arena and conference hall with 1,800 parking spaces and a 1,750 seat conference hall. It will house a government center with city hall and jail and a municipal airport. The center aims to serve a regional need with future operating costs estimated at $150,000 to $175,000 annually. James A. Noe donated $100,000 for a symphonic fountain to be placed in front.

Former El Dorado Man Picked for Vietnam Technical Mission

Rue L. Boswell of El Dorado has been named by the State Department to join five Americans on a 18 month assignment in South Vietnam. As district engineer for the Soil Conservation Service he will advise on irrigation and water management for swamp land conversion. He plans to be in Saigon for two weeks before moving to an unknown location in Vietnam. He is a 1953 El Dorado High School graduate and 1962 LSU Institute agricultural engineering alumnus. He serves in Pine Bluff with his wife and young son Chris.
