County Ledgers Microfilmed and Will Be Burned at Jai
Old estate entry ledgers dating to 1870 were moved from a basement room of the Jai County Courthouse to be burned at the county jail power plant after microfilming. State Records Commission approval was obtained. 177 books and 175 old chattel mortgage ledgers will be destroyed, with real estate books pre 1870 retained by law.

Teacher Killed En Route To County Meet In Fatal Crash
A 27-year-old Dunbar School seventh grade teacher, Ferne Mosley, was killed in a head on crash on the Veterans Bridge linking East St. Louis and St. Louis. Her teaching companion and a man in the other car were injured and taken to St. Mary's Hospital. The teachers were traveling to a Collinsville meeting. Mosley resided in Brooklyn, IL and St. Louis. Leo Unruh of Pagedale, MO was the other driver. Three ambulances conveyed all involved to hospital where Mosley died. The crash occurred about 400 feet east of the fall bridge.

SIU Construction To Begin in May Plans Bids Opened
SIU Edwardsville campus construction should start around May 1 after bids for service and mechanical contracts were opened. Wortman Wins Delayed Plea on Intimidation Charge in Madison County
In Madison County Circuit Court Judge Joseph J. Barr allowed a 10 day delay for Frank Buster Wortman to file a motion before entering a plea on an intimidation indictment tied to threats to bomb an Illinois Bell Telephone Co office and harm its manager. A blaze roared through the Sherry Biltmore Hotel in Boston early today killing at least four and injuring 20. Fire crews combatted flames on upper floors, rescuing residents and 25 ambulances rushed to transport the injured, including cast members from The Sound of Music.
