Governor Kerner Pushes Revenue Study For New Article
Springfield, UPI Governor Otto Kerner urged the Illinois Revenue Study Commission to try again on a proposed constitutional revenue article after an 18 month effort failed to produce a recommendation. He asked chairman Robert Cushman to continue studies without adding new members. The panel had suggested tax hikes on cigarettes wine liquor beer and pari mutuel betting and urged spending cuts in various agencies. Kerner opposed birth control funding plans by the IPAC and warned against election law changes, stressing the need for unity and a strong opposition party to combat fraud.

CD Siren Will Be Tested Saturday
