Two Mitchell area taverns face possible county liquor action after deputies reported they opened past closing hour. At the Orchid Lounge and Diamond Inn, deputies found patrons inside. one man observed drinking at the Orchid but disappeared when entered. Owners claimed they served food. no food or drinks found. Deputies noted uncooperative parties and confiscated a half empty bottle while recording 11 license plates.

Water Main Break Hits Holiday Inn Motel By-Pass 64
A water main break reported at the Holiday Inn Motel on By-Pass 64 occurred around 8:30 am when rain washed dirt from a hillside near Sunset Cemetery. The Glen Carbon Water Department located the break at about 1:30 pm after tracing the line three miles. Officials expect service to resume by six or seven tonight.
