Levee Cut Proposed to Ease Road Building at Stallings
Attorney General Oscar Carlstrom issued an opinion in Springfield noting Madison County Board of Supervisors and the Nameoki Venice Drainage District may cut a 60-year-old levee at Stallings to ease grading for a connecting road between Granite City and Peters. John Douglas Jenkins, 38, of Edwardsville, was struck on the head with a hammer by a youth named Ohal Ivy of Houston after being picked up in St. Louis. Jenkins, who said he paid $4 for a ride to Chicago, was treated at Huber Memorial hospital for head injuries and temporary speech impairment. Ivy and Robert Craig, 38, were held by Decatur police as the investigation continued.
