Lester Wood son of John C Wood from Marine Road Edwardsville was moved to Missouri Sanitarium St Louis for examination by a nerve specialist for a suspected brain abscess from a head injury in a last summer auto crash. Fred Berner of Edwardsville was a passenger. both injured. Wood had returned to work at Roxana after five to six weeks and fell ill again early this week.

Five Take Exams For Scholarship At Shurtleff College
A year's course at Shurtleff College today denied Victor H Titchenal of near the city the right to participate in the annual scholarship exams for the University of Illinois. He was one of six who came to take the tests. The ineligibility was found when County Superintendent J B W Miller checked the blanks. Only one scholarship will be awarded to the top performer. Papers will be sent to Springfield for correction after completion. Local youths and one girl Evelyn E Hulsh attended, with peers Courtney Ford, William R Faulr, Harold Beattie, and Kenneth Valentine also on hand.

Mrs. Mary Katherine Gorman aged near 92 died Friday at her daughter Mrs Martha Eppel’s Staunton home after a two week illness. Born in Adamsville Ohio 1838 she lived much of her life near Nashville Illinois. She married Julius Flaxberry at 18 then to Birch Gorman in 1869 who died in 1909. Surviving are daughters Mia Ida Hyatt Jefferson City Mo and Martha Eppel Staunton eight grandchildren ten great grandchildren and two brothers Paul Zimmer Steeleville Ill Solomon Zimmer Vandalia Ill. Alton Given Meet to Nominate Supr me Court Candidate

Road meeting forms Belt Line to push state road
A Troy High School auditorium gathering of about 200 formed the Madison-St. Clair Belt Line to secure a paved road linking Clover Leaf two miles north of Worden to Belleville via Hamel Fruit Kuhn Station Troy and O Fallon. Ernest Picker presided. officers elected include Picker president Smiley vice president Edwards secretary Schoeck treasurer. A committee from each township will pick five members to report at the June 9 meeting in Troy. Speakers were State Senator Monroe Representative Vaughn and Judge Brown.

D T Beattie of Sparta led the group of nearly 100 people with stops including Ben Witte’s Bluff Road farm near Sugar Loaf Mound where the calf and fattened steer were seen. Sugar Loaf Mound featured in a US geodetic survey marking northwest territory boundaries.
