An Illinois Department of Labor examiner heard testimony on whether the Shell Oil Roxana refinery has resumed full operations and indicated he would also consider more than 450 appeals filed by individual strikers seeking unemployment benefits after accepting temporary work. The hearing, continued at 1 pm, drew a large crowd of observers and others on the second floor balcony. Alton Man Sentenced in Beedy's Tavern Robbery Case
William Edward Morey, 24, of Alton, pleaded guilty to armed robbery of Beedy's Tavern at 1018 N Main St in Edwardsville and to assaulting Patrolman Ray Perry. He received a two to three year term in the Illinois State Penitentiary in Madison County Circuit Court. Morey waived indictment and was sentenced by Circuit Judge Joseph J Barr after the Nov 4 incident. He allegedly took about $100 from the tavern.
