Haller Questions Viability Of County Manager Plan

Brighton Youth Killed as Auto Plunges Off Road
Michael John Leighty a 16 year old resident of Brighton was fatally injured Saturday night when his car left Alternate Route 67 near an overpass west of Wood River. He died at Wood River Township Hospital. A junior at Southwestern High School in Piasa he was active in the band and track team. Surviving relatives include his parents three brothers a sister a step brother and a grandmother. Requiem Mass will be read Tuesday at St Alphonus Church Brighton with burial in the Brighton Cemetery.

A Poag family of ten lost their four room home to a midday fire on Poag Road near the old Poag School. James Stutts and his wife slept through the blaze with six children at school. four year old Bonnie Jean alerted them. Fire damage exceeded five thousand dollars. Stutts works nights as a crane operator in St. Louis and is unsure of the fire’s cause.

MADISON ILL. UP I A home of L C Bonner at Eagle Park Acres was gutted by fire as four departments refused to answer the call since the residence lay outside their districts. An Illinois State Policeman notified Madison Police who alerted Madison Fire. Bonner’s house sits half a mile south of Madison. Three other departments were notified but declined for the same reason. Similar recent fires in Centreville Township followed jurisdictional refusals.
