A six year old boy and Elizabeth Cox, 12, died from burns after an oil fueled explosion ruptured a kitchen stove and set clothing ablaze in a Wood River home. The blaze destroyed the dwelling on Sand Road, hindering the fire department until arrival. Deputy Coroner Robert Streeper said the investigation would continue tonight as witnesses are sought.

Bus service on the Sinois Terminal Railroad between Edwardsville and St Louis and a Carlinville division resumed this morning after a suspension since December 18 due to heavy snow. EE Deforest Dies at Highland Aged 78
Edgar Eugene Deforest lifelong Madison county farmer died suddenly at his Highland area home three miles southeast of Highland on Wednesday morning. Born March 5, 1846 in New York, he came to Highland at 16 and worked on a railroad project and for the government as a railroad engineer. A Civil War veteran, he married Martha Hicklin in February 1879. They had nine children: Edgar Orville Arthur Robert in Highland, Stella Rutherford of Sunland California, and Ethel Douglas of Kansas City Kansas. Funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday at the family home with Rev. Schmidt officiating. burial in Highland City Cemetery.
