Amanda Catherine Dake longtime Madison County resident died Christmas Eve at 7 3 miles from Edwardsville at home of her daughter Mia Cyrus Love on Hillsboro Road northeast of town. She was 93, suffered heart illness and old age, had been an invalid after a hip fracture. Funeral Friday at Marks-Webster Funeral Home then at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church with burial at Querersrove Cemetery.

Kidnapped youth held day witness death in Madison County
A 21 year old man William O Leary from St. Louis told authorities he was kidnapped Monday night and held over 24 hours. He says he witnessed the fatal shooting of Bryce Bolin 21 at Shady Rest, where Bolin s body was later found charred after the resort burned. O Leary sustained two gunshot injuries but is being kept as a witness for an inquest not yet set. He described being forced into a car at Laflin and Grand and driven to St Charles and across the river to Alton with a guard at the wheel. The full story remains partly withheld and a conviction in St Louis may relate to the case.

Worden Woman Sarah Drake Dies at 75
Mrs. Sarah Catherine Drake, 75, of Worden died yesterday at 7:30 am at her son Otis Drake’s home from a complication of diseases. Born near Staunton on October 2 1854 she was twice married to Elijah Drake who died in 1922. Surviving are two sons Ray Swain and Otis Drake two daughters Pearl Dustman and J Giose ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Miner ends life as wife boards train

Mrs Catherine Ohren of Old Ripley died at St Josephs Hospital Highland after an eight week illness. She was 82 years six months eleven days old. Born in Switzerland she lived near Highland most of her life. She married Peter Ohren January 9 1864 who preceded her in death five years ago. Four children Peter John Elizabeth and Mary preceded her. Surviving are three half sisters, eight grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
