Weak addresses and missing sender data lead to dead letters and misrouted cards as parcel packaging demands strict security.
Local team rallied to defeat Staunton 10 to 9 in a tight contest showing improvement over last Friday and reviving some of last year’s champions’ resolve. Young and the Rothmans starred as passing clicked in a second half marked by baskets after a rough first frame.
The Postmaster outlines postal charges for greetings sent as post cards and printed cards. Unsealed greeting cards incur 1 ½ cents per two ounces or fraction. sealed envelopes carry 2 cents per ounce or fraction. Christmas seals should be affixed on the back of letters, not the front.

Illinois Traction officials and the trainmen near a deadlock over a new wage scale to replace the expired contract. Reports claim trainmen seek a ten percent pay raise while the company pushes for a ten percent cut. Negotiations continue with no disruption to service. arbitration only if both sides fail to agree.
Mrs. William Hale of Sawyerville has purchased the lease of the Henrietta Coal Mine from David Young and will operate the property with William Green of Edwardsville as mine manager. Operations resume on a limited scale, with expected activity into spring.
Madison counties oldest resident Cane Henith Brunnworth aged 102 dies after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the residence of his daughter in Worden Wisconsin with Pastor Kolin of the Worden Lutheran church officiating. Interment at nearby Hamel cemetery. Son John Brunnworth of California and daughter Mrs William Kistermann of Crookston Minnesota travel to Worden for the services.
Clarene Alor of Edwardville faces a $48 30 fine after being charged with obstructing Main Street by parking a truck at the center of the roadway on December 8. The driver contends the truck was delivering an express package and that a short move would have freed a stall. The case proceeds as an appeal to the court.
Early today at 7 o clock a fire endangered the residence of Mr and Mrs Lews Kersstaw on Orchard street. Prompt discovery by the homeowner and a rapid response by the fire department prevented major damage as flames were spotted near the roof and quickly extinguished using fire equipment.
The trial of Dee and 15-TLE Fall Coheny ended with the case being sent to the jury at 2:48 this afternoon in Washington D C. The defendant faces multiple conspiracy charges while prosecutors present their final arguments. The jury will consider the evidence and deliver a verdict.
Madison County teachers will attend the Illinois State Teachers Association and County Superintendents Association sessions in Springfield December 28 to 30. County Superintendent Focom Scott will head resolutions. W. F. Coolidge of Granite City serves on the governing committee. State superintendent will announce spelling contest winners. Madison County not represented in the state contest this year. Five sessions run over three days with a varied program and business meetings, allowing teachers to return home for New Year’s Day.
The grand jury for the January term of the circuit court was chosen yesterday by the Board of Supervisors. A large stock of Christmas trees is in Edwardsville today and being distributed among dealers. Early selections drew a rush from shoppers and sales are expected to match previous years. A community tree arrived yesterday and was unloaded at the courthouse square for erection.
