Edwardsville Community Fund Reaches Substantial Total

Contributions and pledges for the Edwardsville Community fund grow despite weather and thinner volunteer turnout. The Edwardsville National Bank Trust Company and employees add 150 dollars, with many individuals listed contributing amounts from one to twenty dollars, lifting the weekly total toward a large goal as volunteers solicit support.

Edwardsville TS Third in Series Shows Hard Fought Football Title

Belleville High School Maroons shocked East St Louis last Saturday by winning the football championship amid heavy snow. Belleville scored a touchdown and field goal by Patterson as Coach Frasier of the Vaehirs altered his lineup. Edwardsville finished third, ahead of Collinsville, Granite City, Atton, and Wood River. Granite City slumped to fifth with no wins, while Atton and Wood River remained winless in the cellar.

Snowbound Traffic Halts Route 4 At Tanyard Hill

Another heavy snow swept the area with three inches yesterday and nearly five inches in the past days. Temperatures fell to 10 above. roads iced and Route 4 blocked at Tanyard Hill for hours as drivers struggled with skidding and chains. An accident near Edwardsville tied up traffic further as motorists assisted each other to move stalled cars.

Wr. J. Dorr of Worden Dies in Hospital

Henry J. Dorr of Worden died at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield at 2:30 this morning after seven weeks illness. He was 77, born in Heffen Germany, and survived by a brother Louis Dorr of St. Louis. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 PM from Wegener and Company Funeral Home in Staunton with Rev. H. C. Cothe officiating. Interment at New Hope Cemetery of Worden.

John Dalpez of Glen Carbon Dies at Home

John Dalpez also known as John Nichalo died at his daughter Mrs J Abram's home in Glen Carbon yesterday about 2 20 am. Born in Austria March 15 1864 he was 75 years 8 months 16 days old. Inquest planned later today. Survived by two daughters Mrs V Allaria and Mrs J Abram, four grandchildren and three brothers in Europe. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm from the Glen Carbon residence. Bootleg Prices Too High Harvard Men Aid Raiders

Harvard students aided federal agents in raids across Cambridge and Boston over two days. Decoys used to gauge bootleg operations after students protested prices of $135 per case for inferior liquor. Five arrests in Cambridge and Boston, with six Harvard students helping the operation.

Miss Romacker Killed In Street Accident In St Louis

Miss Dua Romacker 19 of 2425 Menard Ave St Louis died instantly Saturday about 7:30 PM when struck by a car driven by James Frederick 35 an auto salesman as she and cousin Miss Ethel Pils walked home from work. Frederick helped move the victims to a doctor's home then surrendered to police. Miss Pils sustained a broken leg in three places. Ramacker daughter of Mrs Anna Faust Romacker former resident of the city. Frederick held without bond.

Man Charged With Cruelty to Ten Horses in Edwardsville

Thomas Esom faces a general cruelty to animals charge after Edwardsville Humane Society reported horses starving in a pasture east of Edwardsville. Fifteen animals were cited as the basis for the warrant, with shelter promised and plans to ship to Rockford for slaughter. Seven Killed in Mine Explosion Near West Frankfort

West Frankfort Illinois December 2 bodies of six coal miners lay in a morgue after an explosion at Old Ben Mine No near town at 2 am yesterday. Fifteen others escaped unharmed. A seventh miner was believed dead as search parties descended the shaft. Names listed include J Daher Dewey Baker Henry Isaacs DD BE Breadon Veto Geridini Thomas McDermott and Janes Tabor. Father of Mrs. Mudge Buried in Louisville

Attorney and Mrs. D. H. Mudge returned from Louisville Ky where they attended the funeral of her father Samuel H. Gregory of St. Louis a former resident and Alton official His death followed several weeks illness Funeral services were held in St Louis last Wednesday afternoon after which the body was taken to Louisville for burial Mr Gregory a Kentucky native spent his early life there He was for years with the Eagle Packet Company served as its representative at Alton and later ran the Eagle Boat Store He is survived by his wife and a son Winfrey Gregory.
