Two filling stations Shell and Texaco in the city were robbed around ten o clock. Texaco attendant kidnapped and car stolen after four men demanded money and gasoline during the holdups. Shell station at Buchanan and Park Streets robbed at 9 35 with about $15 taken from the cash register.
John Dale Leach a two year old golf caddy died after a stray ball struck him in St Lowly Missouri as another caddy drove the ball late yesterday. The incident left authorities investigating how the accident occurred and whether precautions at the course were adequate.
Glen Carbon hosts a two day homecoming with a Saturday parade at 7 PM featuring coats and a drum corps, then evening attractions, dancing, a ferris wheel, and concessions. Sunday offers a novelty parade at 6 PM with prizes for parade entries, dancing, and music by Jack Schiber’s orchestra plus a Tudor Mord car giveaway.
Growers warn Northern markets may face tight bean supplies this winter as the navy and large lima crops fall short due to heat and scarce rain. Navy beans bring about 15 cents per pound, while lima beans fetch less, and tomato prices drop as more fruit enters markets. Late cabbage brings up to 5 cents per pound amid fluctuating vegetable prices.
Official schedule announced for Edwardsville bowling leagues. Season printers will issue full schedules in two to three days. Opening night September 3 features Knights of Columbus Teague versus Teague, and several other matchups across divisions with Business Mens and local teams.

The five powers Britain France Italy Japan and the United States accepted a compromise plan with Germany to revise the reparations. Germany made concessions and agreed to the plan. A German evacuation of the Rhineland is to be completed by the end of next June.
The Grafe Zeppelin finished the first world circumnavigation by air and set a new record at Lakehurst New Jersey while returning on August 29. The flight duration was 2 days 7 hours and 2 minutes, beating prior records. The craft may depart for Germany Saturday evening under Captain Ernst Lehmann.
The Wood River district including Wood River East Alton Wartford and Roxana shows a total population of 16482 for 1929 30 up from 12460 last year with Wood River at 8140 East Alton 4420 Hartford 1626 Roxana 1397 and growth linked to industry and expansion of International Shoe Co.
Three new divorce actions were filed in the circuit court. Mary Gross of Wood River sues William Gross for cruelty, seeking alimony and an injunction to stop sale of property. Lelah Moore of Wood River accuses Hubert Moore of cruelty and seeks alimony. Selma Vonland of Highland accuses her husband Mex Vonland, a Highland barber, of habitual drunkenness and cruelty, also seeking alimony.
C and Croepmans of Sheridan Avenue were injured when their vehicle was struck by an auto driven by August Kahtz of 417 Randle Street. Creemans suffered a compound fracture of the right leg and was taken to St Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City. Kahtz, who aided in buying the Chevrolet involved, was slightly hurt. Mrs Kahtz sustained a dislocated thumb and bruises. Both vehicles were only slightly damaged.
In St Louis an 82 year old woman named Lucy Patton was found with throat and chest wounds. She told police her son Samuel Patton, 60, inflicted the injuries amid disputes over alcohol. Neighbors heard screams and police recovered a bloody knife. the elder Patton charged her son after questioning.
In Bellingham on August 28 a plane piloted by R C Graham seeded 160 acres in 1 hour 40 minutes at 95 miles per hour. W A Granger, land owner, helped by dropping seed from a sack in a 6 inch stream through a door in the coop, using about 800 pounds. The plane flew about 600 feet high.
A miner named William McDonald was shot in the head while seated in a Benld restaurant yesterday. He has improved and is expected to live. Police seek information on a suspect with no trace found today and search for Seldon Nelson of St. Louis for questioning.
In Collinsville two improvement districts faced hearings in county court before Judge Wilbur A Traies. The proceedings laid groundwork for construction costing about 180000. A jury heard evidence on benefits with some assessments trimmed in District 290A while District 298 resolved most legal questions though few property owners consider appealing to the Supreme Court.
A Madison County Historical Society delegation led by Prof. W J Armstrong will seek an appropriation from the County Board of Supervisors Finance Committee on September 4 to purchase the Indian and Mound Wander relief collection of John R Sutter of at hifs elty. Armstrong says funds should be found if a reasonable price is offered and the deal should close before the pieces leave the county. He notes a recent $100 local fund raise for a Lincoln Douglas debate worker and expects further support.
Gossip swirls after a youth paid over 300 on old bills following a local bank robbery. Charles Buchannan, 19, of Alton, confessed involvement and named Edward Willis, arrested in Madison, while a third suspect remains at large. All suspects are from Alton.
A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral for Mrs Claudina Dimond wife of Jack Dimond who died at Missouri Baptist Sanitarium St Louis. Mass was held at St Mary's Catholic Church with Rev C A O'Reilly officiating. Interment at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jos Raffaele Oliver McNeilly Ernest Herznerma George Crocker Fred Demsky Eugene Bauer. Attendees from distant cities included Adolph Stelulage Mrs Hinma O'Brien George Crocker family Chils Bauer family Fred Demsky August Haase Louis Barth family Miss Jinf Coffrint Edward Colfrint Mittsburgh.
The regular weekly band concert is set for this evening at City Park with the Wood River band providing music. The Edwards villa band recently played in Wood River and returned for this concert. A large crowd attended the Wood River event and Leslie Cakes Weber of Collinsville was a popular soloist. The final concert will be held next week with additional attractions planned and announcements to follow.
Greenville TH Aug 29 Elder John Whitiford Greenville was elected moderator for the 2th consecutive term at the 99th annual meeting of the Kaskaskia Primitive Baptist Association held at Mount Nebo Church near here. More than 100 guests from Indiana Missouri and Illinois stayed with local families last night with men in barn lofts and women on beds and cots.
Bethalto plans its annual homecoming on Labor Day in Bethalto and northern Madison County. Sponsored by the American Legion post, the event features a ball game, an afternoon concert by the community orchestra, special vocal selections, free dancing, and evening dancing with Giesple’s Golden Peacocks providing music, plus additional features.

Carl Everett Graham died last night at Bulpitt after a weeklong illness. The body will be brought here for burial at 6 pm with home state arrangements pending. He was born February 26 1867 in New Haven West Virginia and was 32 years 6 months 1 day old. He moved to Edwardsville in 1910 and lived here since. Married with two children, he and his wife have separated. Survived by his mother Mrs May Clarkson, sister Mrs Florence Rowand and brothers Charles and Clarenes, all of Edwardsville.
