Nativity row ends as Lynnwood wins free-speech dispute
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Dennis Britt ruled in favor of the city in the long running Nativity display case. The decision, issued Dec. 10 and to be written later, clears the way for a Christmas scene not erected on city property this season. The dispute began in 1984 when firefighters placed a Nativity scene at the Lynnwood Fire Station. The ACLU filed suit contending violation of church state separation. The case centers on First Amendment interpretations and city free speech policy for displays on city property.
