Edgefield voters cast 1 821 first primary ballots with 1 809 counted in yesterday's tally. Blease led McLeod for governor with 501 to 1308. Hope had 634 to Swearingen 1158. Bledsoe 820 beat Sheppard 83. Turner won magistrate with 9 vote majority. State figures: McLeod 98 390, Blease 83 293. Hope 104 543, Swearingen 73 528. Meod likely next governor. Hope next state superintendent.
Mrs. Quarles wife of Mr. P M Quarles died at home in Red Hill after months of illness. She was a devout Christian woman and mother. Funeral conducted at Red Hill Church yesterday noon by Rev P B Lanham.
A large social at Englewood, the home of Mr. and Mrs. F F Rainsford, entertained about 100 guests from Trenton Johnston and Edgefield with pink and white decorations, punch served on the piazza, music from a Victrola, and formal introductions. Stephen F. Tillman of Mt. Ranier Maryland writes from Washington News Service offering free feature articles to the Edgefield Advertiser and enclosing a year’s subscription payment. He notes edgefield roots born 1900 and ties to Washington journalism, sending greetings from the Military Editor son.
Edgefield County Board of Commissioners will meet on October 6 1922 at Turkey Creek bridge on Meeting Street for bids to erect a steel span forty feet and a wood span about twenty feet with concrete piers. A second bid round will occur at Sleepy Creek bridge on the New Cut road near Mr Wiley Timmerman for a similar bridge. The county supplies materials and reserves right to reject any or all bids.
