The mail steamer La Seyne and the Onda collided near Singapore early Sunday in thick fog. La Seyne sank in two minutes with seven European passengers including Aaron Beniezky and the captain among the drowned. Sixty one people were saved from wreckage, many bitten by sharks, after harrowing rescue attempts by the Onda’s crew.
An early morning blaze in a Palish lodging house on the river left three unidentified foreign men dead, five others seriously injured, and twelve residents bruised or shocked by the fire. Fire crews battled the flames through the night.

A mob seized Henry Salzner from a jail cage in Cario Illinois and hanged him to a telegraph pole. The lynching followed the earlier hange of Will James for Miss Annie Pelley murder as National Guard kept streets quiet around the courthouse.
President Taft added New England to his western and southern trip with stops in Middletown to witness the installation of Dr. William A. Shanklin as Wesleyan University president and Hartford for the dedication of the new State arsenal and armory. He then proceeded to Washington after attending a state ball.

Governor Weeks introduces Taft to a large enthusiastic crowd while other speakers struggle to hold attention.
