Mrs Milne Stirs Edgefield W C T U on Prohibition Talk

Mrs Ge Milne of Aberdeen Scotland spoke at the Edgefield church under the Woman's Christian Temperance Union on the Scottish push for prohibition. She described old customs hindering sales of intoxicants and expressed hope as local option allows communities to vote every two years.

Sunday Services at First Baptist Church

Women of the South in War Times honor Abbeville chapter

The Abbeville chapter celebrated gains from its meeting with two new members and a presentation of the book Women of the South in War Times to the town library. They sent good cheer to veterans and ill neighbors and pledged donations to the Jefferson Davis memorial Cunningham fund and Secession Hill marking project. A Thanksgiving box will go to the County Home. Mrs. Strother was elected state convention delegate, Cox alternate. A historical program closed with a paper on South Carolina’s role in the War Between the States by Miss Frances Turner.

Dial to renew fight over Tolbert senate confirmation

Senator N B Dial of South Carolina said he would resume his opposition to confirming Joseph W Tolbert a Republican appointed by the president as marshal of the Western district of South Carolina. Dial spoke after a subcommittee hearing where the recess appointment was debated.

Minstrel at Flat Rock School House

An event titled Negro Minstrel will be held Friday evening at the Flat Rock school building. Mr. J. W. Reese recalled the 46th anniversary of the memorable 1876 election. He notes it was November 7 and still possesses the Colts cap and ball pistol he carried that day. He says he would have used it if necessary, though relieved not to.
