F Duriloe proprietor announces new terms two dollars fifty cents per year if paid in advance three dollars if not paid within six months and one dollar if not paid before expiration. Subscriptions auto renew unless canceled. Five subscribers earned free paper. Advertisements 75 cents per square for first insertion one square equals twelve lines. Monthly or quarterly ads one dollar per square. Communications postpaid treated promptly.
The piece condemns inflated praise of stock quality and the manipulation by unreliable judges. It cites Northern breeders, warns against deceptive notices, and urges Southrons to favor homebred animals. Col. Wade Hampton’s Durham cattle and New Leicester Sheep are praised, with emphasis on local, tested stock and premiums won.
A Yale College oration by Dr. G. W. Bethune on study aims and abuses. It argues serious neglect of physical exercise among students harms mind and body, condemns the idea that work alone sustains progress, and urges enjoyable, purposeful activity to sustain thought and health.
