Memorial Day Observed by Mary Ann Buie UDC Chapter

Memorial Day was observed in Johnston on April 26 by the Mary Ann Buie chapter UDC with a 4 PM service at the Methodist church. Mr. Rion McKissick of Greenville gave the address. 64 veterans were honored as descendants placed flowers on graves. A wreath was laid at the Confederate monument and the day included a cemetery visitation and rose petal processions.

The Methodist Church hosted its annual children's day service with a full house. Mrs Lovick Smith organized the program, Miss Sadie Mims played piano, and infant Mildred Mae Alford was baptized by Rev G W M Taylor. Mr S B Nicholson presided over the meeting.

Members rally for 1 W. C. T. U. contest and 50th anniversary

Edgefield hosts a one million member drive as the national WCTU prepares for its 50th anniversary in 1924. Monday's meeting at Mrs. J L Mims’s home introduces three trio teams led by Mrs. J L Mims Mrs W L Dunovant and Mrs Helen Nicholson to boost memberships with 12 new members reported and May 16 as the contest end. A reception will honor new members. Gladys Lawton recited and returned from Columbia with state prize hopes.
