Augusta launches Atsuqua Week from May 9 to May 13 led by a civic parade, Uchee pageant, and citywide decorations after a major fire. Mayor Littleton to receive city keys as Red Men in disguise symbolically claim Atsugua’s capital role.
Two marriages took place on the second Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at Plum Branch Methodist Church. Miss Coreen Walls wed Mr Bradley Bowie and Miss Maggie Medlock wed Mr George Shrine in a double ceremony led by Rev. Robert Rountree. The couple and families celebrated at a wedding feast before the Bowies left for Donalds South Carolina to start their life together.
Memorial service announced for May 14 at Sweetwater Baptist Church with ex Gov J C Sheppard to deliver the address in the afternoon. May 10 cemetery cleanup, grands ambling Atsugua ball with Royal coronation by Red Men and two daily performances by gymnasts and performers at the Atsugua Hippodrone on Barrett Plaza. Open air show under Pat Casey management aims to attract state leaders and visitors with 3500 seats, low railroad fares three cents per mile to Augusta, and a big festival boost amid city recovery efforts.

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union will hold a 4 30 pm meeting at the Baptist church for temperance and missions with all Edgefield mission societies invited. Mrs Peak leads devotions and Mrs Abner Broadwater chairs the program including readings solos hymns and a China message followed by a social hour.
Southern Railway announces a major expansion including 45 locomotives 60 all steel passenger cars 1 500 all steel coal cars 1 507 steel center sill box cars and 100 steel center sill caboose cars from Baldwin Pullman Pressed Steel Lenoir Mt Vernon and other makers plus 1 000 30 ton ventilated box cars from American Car and Foundry for Mobile and Ohio. New gear will be modern and high powered with electric lighted passenger cars and steel construction delivering as soon as builders ship.
The Advertiser notes Miss Mary Lucia Mobley daughter of Dr Goode Mobley of Johnston has led student government at Coker College and will perform a Senior Recital Friday May 12 in the College Auditorium Hartsville SC. The notice also mentions a new shipment of men's pants at Mukashy Bargain House with advertised low prices.
Veterans attended the Rock Hill reunion with W. T. Walton J. G. Mobley G. P. Cobb W. A. Jordan and others. Miss Antoinette Denny elected teacher and principal at Aiken High, plans to live in Aiken. Coker College invites Mary Lucia Mobley to senior recital in Hartsville. Lina Keesee injured but recovering from broken collar bone. Various visits, travels, and social events noted including a large house party hosted by Miss Maud Nickerson and Miss Fannie Nickerson with Watson Bland wedding forthcoming.
