Joe Grant Convicted in First Degree Murder in Johnston

The Edgefield court heard the murder trial of Joe Grant for killing Jesse T. Durst in Johnston in April 1906. Grant was found guilty of murder in the first degree and sentenced to death, to be electrocuted on April 14, the tenth anniversary of the homicide. He was moved to Columbia Penitentiary after the verdict and stated he preferred the electric chair to life imprisonment.
