Johnston WCTU Meeting Focuses on Christian Citizenship

The July meeting of the Johnston WCTU met Friday afternoon despite heavy rain. Mrs. Mattie Denny led the program on Christian Citizenship, with songs and readings, plus a contribution for sick soldiers and sailors. Several local residents were noted visiting or returning from trips as ongoing church activities and missionary efforts continued.

Busy peach season wraps up at Clark's Hill with shipments

Last week about three hundred crates of peaches were shipped and the final car left Meriwether Friday night. Many crates arrive around eleven, express agents busy with bills. Peach boys return home while locals note visitors from Augusta Harlem and Mooresville. Annual meeting opens Sunday with pastor Geo T Asbill and Dr Williams. Sunday school plans delegation to Parksville convention.

Annual Farmers Institute at Cleora Picnic Held

The Cleora farmers club will host its annual barbecue and picnic on Thursday August 10 with prominent speakers addressing farmers. Dinner costs fifty cents for men and boys over fourteen, while women and children attend free.

Evening Honors Honoraries From Derring and Columbia

Thursday evening honored Ruth Harris of Derring Georgia and Nellie V Bailey of Columbia. The event featured progressive games music and conversation with a later serving of ice cream and cake. Ford Turner returned from Batesburg with Ethel Cullum and Anna Belle Whitten hosting others. Parker and Prescott took a car trip to Springfield. W Stokes and Annie Stokes and Virgie Courtney visited Blackville for friends and relatives.

Satcher Revered for Theological Study and Deaconate

Mr Herbert B Satcher completed a theology course at Philadelphia Divinity School earning a bachelor of divinity and was ordained deacon by the Bishop of Jersey on June 24 He will serve two churches Sewarren and Cartarat in that diocese A Sunday home service drew pride and quiet admiration from the community The Baptist missionary held a monthly meeting with a display of linen and hospitality notes list visitors and ongoing social events at local homes and clubs

Lovely Party Honoring Miss Reynolds and Guests

Miss Rosela Parker hosted a nine o clock Monday evening event in honor of Miss Reynolds Miss Tompkins Miss Parker and the Misses Carroll. Miss Bessie Parker greeted guests at the door while Frances Jones and Eloise Hart served punch in Japanese dress. Japanese lanterns and a parasol adorned the porch as rag time and progressive conversation amused attendees. Peach cream and fruitcake were served on the last date the fourteenth.
