Davenport Hanged for Murder in Newport News
Andrew L Davenport, described as a Negro, was hanged at 4 59 Friday morning for the murder of William Thomas. Davenport confessed but claimed innocence until the end. Thomas’s life was insured for 1000 in Davenport’s favor. The victim was shot and found by boys in a deserted neighborhood.
