Mr M W Shive has purchased the planing outfit of Mr D A Frick and will greatly increase plant capacity at once. The Elis plant will be the shipping depot for output of the Southern Wholesale Lumber Co whose capable manager at Edgefield is Mr T D Barker. Since locating in Edgefield Mr Shive has proven himself a public spirited progressive citizen and is pleased to report he has acquired this property.

Cheatham and Holmes Quietly Wed in Edgefield

Mrs May West Cheatham and Mr Sherrod Holmes wed Sunday afternoon at the home of Frank West. Rev A T Allen of First Baptist Edgefield officiated. The couple are popular in their community with many friends in Edgefield.

Death of Mrs. E. M. Holmes

Mrs. Elizabeth Hammond Holmes died at home in Edgefield on July 1 at age 72 or 73. She was a devout Red Hill Church member, married to a long-time husband, and survived by ten children including Sherrod Holmes, with the funeral held Thursday.

Morning services were held at Red Hill by Rev. A. T. Allen. Mrs. Holmes was survived by her aged husband and ten children including Mrs. Sallie Vance, Mrs. Annie Holmes, Diomede Holmes, J. H. Holmes, S. A. Holmes, E. M. Holmes, Jr., W. O. Holmes, Sherrod Holmes, Mrs. Fannie Parkman and Mrs. Ethel Hammond.

Baptist Sunday School Picnic Invitation

The First Baptist church Sunday school plans its annual picnic on Friday afternoon July 14 at Salter's Pond. All members are urged to attend with mothers and fathers welcome. Those without transport should meet at the church at 3 pm for conveyance to the pond. Bathing, supper, and basket packing are requested.

Death of Mr B B Thompson in Smiths pond

Sunday about five o clock Mr B B Thompson died of heart failure in Smiths pond while swimming. He waded out then sank suddenly and could not be saved despite nearby swimmers efforts. He had been a machinist for Edgefield Lumber Company and his body was taken to Shelby North Carolina for interment.
